Nolan Elementary School Year 2007-2008 Second Grade Summer Reading List
The purpose of the summer reading list is to encourage students to continually read and to expand their reading interest. With parents, teachers, library media specialists and public librarians offering reading guidance and encouragement through these lists, our students will achieve the benefits that only reading can bring. Students will be responsible for reading 5 books and completing two activities for their upcoming grade level prior to the first day of school. Some suggested activities: 1. Create a new book cover. Include an attractive cover design, summary of the book, and information about the author. 2. Make a poster to advertise your book. 3. Design a T-shirt for your character. 4. Create a crossword puzzle using vocabulary words from the book (remember to write clues). 5. Draw 3 pictures that show events from the beginning, middle, and end of the story. Write a sentence that describes each picture. 6. Make a shoebox diorama to show an interesting part of the book. 7. Make 3 bookmarks about the book. Show a main character, an important scene, and the main idea of the books. 8. If your book is a biography of a famous person, write about that person. Tell why he or she is famous and three or more things you learned. *If you can’t find the particular title that is listed, please feel free to read other titles by that author.
