MR. BARKER'S PARENT NEWSLETTER

April 7, 2008

Dear Parents:

On behalf of the entire staff here at Nolan, I hope each of you had a relaxing and enjoyable Spring Break and that you were able to spend some quality time with your family. Please read the following announcements and if you have any questions call me at school.

TCAP - April 14 - 18 will be TCAP time in Tennessee. Grades 2-5 will be taking these high stakes tests between 9:00 and 11:30 AM each day! As a result, movement around our building will be greatly limited during this time frame. Please help us make this a successful experience for our students!

PTA - Our last PTA meeting of the year will be held April 8 at 7:00 PM. The 5th grade chorus and handbell choir will give their final school performances of the year!

KINDERGARTEN REGISTRATION - If you have a child who will enter kindergarten this fall you will need to register him/her on WEDNESDAY, MAY 7, AT 1:00 PM in our gym! Items needed for this process are a birth certificate, Tennessee's green immunization and physical form, the child's Social Security Card, and two proofs of residence. If you don't have all of these items please come to register anyway. It is critical that you register on this day so I can staff for next year. You can bring in the required items at a later date. Please pass this notice along to anyone you know who will have a child in kindergarten next year.

PRE-REGISTRATION FOR NEXT YEAR - I sent home pre-registration cards for the 2008-09 school year with our last report cards for grades K-4. If you have not filled out this registration card please do so and return it to your child's teacher. I do not assign students to classes without this card!

MORNING DROP-OFF FOR 2008-09 YEAR - Due to the growth we have experienced here at Nolan over the last three years, I will be changing our morning drop-off procedures for the 2008-09 school term. About 20 minutes prior to the start of school two traffic cones will be placed in the entrance lanes just west of our flagpole. After that time all cars will have to proceed to the western most entrance to the school and enter there. This is an effort to get our traffic off of Shackleford Ridge Road since the new high school will be open!

Sincerely,
Kenneth Barker, Principal
