Difference from Founder's Fund

Mountain Education Fund News

The Signal Mountain community is known for its generosity and faithful support of the Mountain Education Fund. The 2006-2007 campaign raised more than $176,000 and was disbursed among the public schools serving the children of this community. Nolan Elementary alone received $66,848! Our goal this year is $175,000. Please help us reach that goal not only by donating but by participating in the programs highlighted below. Donations are accepted throughout the year. Contributions to the MEF make great honorary or memorial gifts for someone special. As always, your donation is tax deductible. Every contribution makes a real difference!

Donations can be mailed to:

Mountain Education Fund

Established in 1991 by a group of concerned parents in response to state wide funding cuts for education, the Mountain Education Fund is a cooperative fundraising effort on behalf of the public schools serving Signal Mountain. The MEF raises funds each year and distributes them according to each school's 10th day enrollment. Funds are raised via direct appeal in a community-wide mailing followed by a Phone-a-Thon, partnering with local retailers for cash back programs, grants, and employer matching programs. All monies raised are used for educational programs or capital improvements as determined by each school's PTA and its principal. The MEF is completely volunteer run and its expenses are very low, usually just 3%-5% of the total amount raised. Donations are held by the Community Foundation of Greater Chattanooga and the MEF's 501c3 status is maintained under their umbrella. All donations to the MEF are tax-deductible to the amount allowed by law.

The Mountain Education Fund is an integral part of the education of children on Signal Mountain. Our community values the highest standards in education. Because of our collaborative efforts we are making a difference in the education and lives of our children. The MEF is a fine example not just of the generosity of our community, but a tangible example of the collective energy and voluntary efforts invested by so many of our residents.
