Past Letters from the PTA President
August 2007
Welcome to the 2007-08 school year at Nolan Elementary. Starting a new
school year is always an exciting time – new school supplies, new
teachers and friends -- a new beginning. This year you will see several
new things at Nolan – new teachers and technology, as well as new
neighbors and friends due to growth in our community. The new Signal Mountain
Middle/High School is also under construction, which brings to Nolan a
new face (Principal, Eddie Gravitte), and a new vision of the future.
It is truly an exciting time!
With all that’s new at Nolan, one thing that remains the same is
the need for parental involvement in our school. Francis Keppel, a former
U.S. Commissioner of Education, once said, “Education is too important
to be left solely to the educators.” I believe Mr. Keppel is right
on target! Nolan has a strong history of parental involvement and I challenge
you to join me in building on that foundation. Get involved in your child’s
education. Get to know your child’s teachers, friends and school
by volunteering in the classroom, reviewing homework, and serving through
the PTA. Join your child for lunch, class trips and parties. Attend PTA
meetings regularly.
Nelson Mandela said, “Education is the most powerful weapon which
you can use to change the world.” Let’s work together to equip
our children to that end!
Looking for you at Nolan!
Jill Steelman
